چکیده

Most array signal processing systems u e delay-and-sum beamforming to estimate source bearings. This paper demonstrates the close relationship between beamforming and frequency-wavenumber spectrum analysis. The latter approach as computational dvantages over beamforming when the noise is spatially correlated. The wavenumber approach is used to'derive the array response of a general inear or planar array to plane wave signals. The statistical properties of the maximum-likelihood estimators of source bearing and amplitude are presented for an array with many elements. Optimal array design is also discussed.

Avenumber-frequency Spectra of Rbulent-boundary-layer Pressure Asured by Microphone Arrays

Measurements of frequency spectra of pressure along a wind-tunnel wall have been made by single microphones and by a longitudinal array of four flush 0.8-inch circular microphones connected with alternating and with common phase. The alternating-phase array was designed to suppress by its wavenumber filtering the background acoustic duct noise at frequencies near 3 kHz. The measured levels set ...

Source Depth Estimation Using a Horizontal Array by Matched-Mode Processing in the Frequency-Wavenumber Domain

In shallow water environments, matched-field processing (MFP) and matched-mode processing (MMP) are proven techniques for doing source localization. In these environments, the acoustic field propagates at long range as depth-dependent modes. Given a knowledge of the modes, it is possible to estimate source depth. In MMP, the pressure field is typically sampled over depth with a vertical line ar...

Optimal Detector and Signal Design for STAP based on the Frequency-Wavenumber Spectrum

In this paper we address the design of an optimal transmit signal and its corresponding optimal detector for a radar system. The focus is on the spatial-temporal aspects of the waveform and is accomplished using the concept of the frequency-wavenumber spectrum. A uniform line array is assumed but the results are easily extended to a uniform planar array. The target is assumed to be a zero Doppl...

Windowing Effects of Short Time Fourier Transform on Wideband Array Signal Processing Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation

During the last two decades, Maximum Likelihood estimation (ML) has been used to determine Direction Of Arrival (DOA) and signals propagated by the sources, using narrowband array signals. The algorithm fails in the case of wideband signals. As an attempt by the present study to overcome the problem, the array outputs are transformed into narrowband frequency bins, using short time Fourier tran...
